The next California Fish and Game Commission meeting (CFGC) will be held October 11 and 12th in Atascadero. Agenda items to review, 6 Discuss proposed changes to sport fishing regulations (Sections 1.05, 1.11, 1.18, 1.61, 1.74, 2.10, 2.25, 5.35, 5.41, 5.88, 7.00, 7.50 and 8.00; repeal Section 1.60; and add Section 2.05, Title 14, CCR) 7. Discuss proposed changes to regulations for the use of GPS-equipped dog collars and treeing switches for dogs used to pursue/take mammals or for dog training (Section 265, Title 14, CCR) 13. Non-marine petitions for regulation change from previous meetings

(A) Action on petitions for regulation change – none scheduled at this time.

(B) Action on pending regulation petitions referred to staff and the Department for review. I. Petition #2015-009 to raise commercial trapping license fees II. Petition #2016-028 to clarify fire service members authorized to validate deer and elk tags. The next FGC meeting will be December 6th and 7th in San Diego. Timing of this articles publication to the actual meetings is such of an offset that it may create old news.

DFW has been working on updates to their Big Game Management plans. The elk plan is on its final review within DFW and deer, antelope, sheep and bear in the process. Let’s hope these plans work to keep populations sustainable.

A Wildlife Resources Committee meeting was held September 13 in Riverside. Agenda items 3. Identify and discuss initial recommendations for 2018-19 upland game bird regulations, no changes 4. Discuss and approve recommendations for 2018-19 regulations: (A) Mammal hunting, no changes, normal tag allocations ranges (B) Waterfowl hunting, change for 2018 to allow take of 2 pintail (C) Central Valley Chinook salmon sport fishing (D) Klamath River sport fishing 5. Discuss and possible recommendation for phase 2 falconry regulation change options and potential timing, hold till phase one has taken affect 6. Discuss and possible recommendation for wild pig management proposal 7. Predator Policy Workgroup (A) Predator Policy Workgroup member presentations on draft terrestrial predator policy and regulatory proposals (B) Discuss and possible recommendation for terrestrial predator policy and regulatory proposals, issues related to the wording of “humane” as part of proposal. Will be on hold till December FGC meeting. The next WRC meeting will be in early 2018.
